What is it? Should You Want it? Here's what you need to know
Pokemon's latest big press conference (yes, that's a thing) featured their brand new "Pokemon Sleep" program, coming in 2020. But what does that mean and why should we care? Let's take a look.
Why A Sleep App?
It may sound like an odd fit, but it really makes sense. Sleep aids are a $28 billion industry, and everybody sleeps. Combine that with the rampant success of Pokemon Go and they have a built in market of experienced players, ready for new ways chase Pokemon in the real world. If people are willing to drive across town for a rare catch, sleeping on it should be a no brainer.
So What Does It DO?
It’s too early on to see exactly how it works, but from their press materials, the Pokemon Sleep app should be tied to a sleep tracker that tells the app when you’re not awake. You’ll be rewarded for the time you spend sleeping, when you wake up and more! This way you get in-game rewards for good behavior, improving both your score and sleep habits.
Here’s how their team describes it:
We should be learning more about the game dynamic as the deadline nears, but we can assume that a lot of the waiting and rarity will be based on how well you sleep while playing.
What Sort of Gadgets Will You Need for Pokemon Sleep?
Pokemon Go Plus and Pokemon Go Plus Plus (really)
Along with a new concept, Pokemon Sleep will keep you connected using an upgraded device. Like the current generation, it’s a way to improve your game progress without having to run the app all the time, now with new biometrics!
When it’s not watching how you sleep, this one will take care of your Pokemon Go Plus functions, so if you don’t have one already, it’s worth the wait. It’s also creatively titled the “Pokemon Go Plus Plus”, which is either really amazing or the worst thing ever, it’s hard to tell at this point.
As far as pricing and dates, that info isn’t out yet, but we’ll be updating this with the latest as it is released!
